The advancement of artificial intelligence (AI)
has driven innovations across various sectors
but also raises significant environmental
concerns, particularly due to the high energy
and water consumption of data centers.
This article examines AI’s environmental
impact by analyzing rising energy and water
consumption, carbon emissions, and global
regulatory challenges. The research is based
on a literature review and official reports,
comparing mitigation initiatives adopted
by different countries, such as the European
Union, the United States, and China. The
study highlights the need for public policies
and technological advances aimed at
sustainability, emphasizing solutions such as
low-energy AI, renewable energy sources, and
efficient server cooling methods. It concludes
that the transition to sustainable AI requires
coordinated efforts between governments, the
private sector, and the academic community to minimize environmental impacts and ensure
responsible technological development.
